Environmental Distress, Anxiety and Loss

Climate Anxiety (Eco-Anxiety)

Why Climate Change and

Eco-Anxiety Counselling?

Climate change is undoubtedly the biggest game changer of this century. It affects not just our environment and communities, but also our economies, security and our wellbeing in profound ways.

When significant external threats arise, our attention often shifts to ‘outward actions’ in the world. Critically, during these periods our ‘inner systems’ often become overlooked, yet they are just as vital to the effort.

For example, our capacity to understand, manage and navigate through what constitutes a complex existential threat to ourselves, our communities, our nations, and the Earth with all its interconnected systems becomes vitally important.

My value to you

There is a very real and deep connection between people’s health and the health of the environment.

Working in the field of Natural Resource Management I am acutely aware of the distress, anxiety and loss people feel when faced with climate change and natural disasters.

Now days, simply watching the news can bring about feelings of distress, anxiety and concern for the future due to the number of disasters that are now occurring. Alternatively, having the experience of going through or responding to an event such as bushfire, flood, drought, cyclone, or seeing the impacts in our oceans can leave you with a range of complex feelings and reactions.

My value in this space brings together, 20 years’ experience in Natural Resource Management, qualifications in Counselling, ~10 years’ experience in several Wisdom Systems and motherhood to help people navigate what is a complex environmental and mental health landscape.

NN&R principles in eco-anxiety counselling

  • Eco-anxiety does not exist in isolation; it often coincides with multiple and complex stressors in people's lives.

  • Eco-anxiety counselling welcomes people from all backgrounds and is a
    non-judgemental service.

  • Counselling for eco-anxiety should maintain transparency in its methods and the selection of modalities.

A range of tools and techniques to help

All people’s values, connection and relationship to the environment, and personal association to climate change and its impacts will be very different. This is because we all are unique and come from very different backgrounds.

I will work with you to listen to your values, connection and experiences associated to eco-anxiety. Then together we can explore a variety of specialised models, modalities, tools and techniques that best serve your situation.

Walking with wisdom systems

Eco-anxiety is a unique challenge as it often represents an existential threat at some level. Whether this is conscious or subconscious, this feeling has the potential to unsettle and shape the core of an individual's belief systems and feelings of safety.

At NN&R, I use a blend of holistic methods (integrating counselling methods and Wisdom Systems), which helps clients explore how we experience, connect, re-orient and adapt across our lifetime.
